The theme for Safer Internet Day 2016 is ‘Play your part for a better internet’ and provides an opportunity for us to reflect on the responsibility we all have to help create a respectful and inclusive online community.
This year’s Safer Internet Day 2016 will be the 13th year of the event which is celebrated by over 100 countries worldwide.
The day offers the opportunity to discuss the positive uses of technology and to explore how we as users can create a better and safer online community.
Speaking about the importance of responsible internet use Mayor Sarah Holland said ‘Technology plays a huge part in our lives, offering great opportunities and benefits for all society, however it is important that we are aware of the negative aspects of technology. We must be responsible users of technology and the internet and remember the role that each of us plays in creating and maintaining a better and safer online community’.
