Knocklyon Network holds it’s first meeting tomorrow night Tuesday,12th of January in the Iona Centre at 7.30 PM .     New members interested in participating and doing some work for their Community are very welcome.

We start the year on the back of having being Awarded the Community Endeavour Award for 2015 by South Dublin County Council on the 11th of December.     We look forward to a challenging New Year.    What are some of the likely areas of activity for the Knocklyon Network?

Environment: We will continue to fight to get a Children’s playground into Dodder Valley Park as well as further improvements towards turning this amenity into a proper park like Tymon or Marley.    We will also be trying to get a project going to harness the Weir and provide electricity for Community projects.     We will work on issues like bins,Graffitti, Dog Fouling.      Following our negotiations last year with the Landlords of the Knocklyon Shopping Centre, which brought some welcome improvements,we will continue to try to negotiate further improvements here.

Crime: we will continue to support local initiatives to reduce crime through Facebook, text alerts, Community Watch.     We work with the local Garda Stations to try to get a greater presence and quicker response to crimes taking place.

Traffic: We work with the Council and the Garda to try to improve traffic problems.      We also make applications to the Road Transport Authority  with respect to better Bus links, Cycle Paths, and a Rapid Transit Service.

Schools: We hope to work more closely with all of the Schools in the area to develop the strong role that the schools provide.   We also hope to develop the very strong links that past pupils of our schools feel with their school whether they are here in Dublin or in Timbuktu.

Politicians: This is an election year .    We intend to exploit this opportunity to exact promises on improving our Community.    We will also be working more closely with the Council and Councillors to deliver more funding to Knocklyon to areas of need.

Some of the other Areas we would love to get involved with are Youth Activities, Meals on Wheels, Age Action, Men-Sheds, Community Activities.

ALL OF THESE DEPEND ON VOLUNTEERS.    WE NEED MORE NEW VOLUNTEERS TO DEVELOP THESE ACTIVITIES TO MAKE KNOCKLYON AN EVEN BETTER PLACE.
