We are based in Cherryfield ( Dodder Valley) Park, on the Firhouse Road, and have a sprint track and long jump pit in St Colmcille’s Community School. The club has approximately 200 members, including juvenile, junior, senior and adult athletes. Our coaches have taken coaching courses from the Athletic Association of Ireland. We train athletes in :
- Cross country
- Sprinting and hurdles
- Middle distance
- Long distance and road running
- High jump and long jump
- Shop putt, discus and javelin
The club enters teams in athletics competitions through the year – track and field in summer, cross country in winter. We encourage all athletes to take part in competition, whatever their ability. We have a waiting list for membership in some age groups and priority will be given to those athletes who take part in competitions.
The adult section of Bros Pearse AC includes the Knocklyon Runners group.
The adult group is focused (for the moment at least!) on distance running. As such, training sessions are a mix of hill runs, intervals, tempos, and easy runs. The adult group includes runners of all standards, and also represents the club in competitions through the year, as well as turning out large groups for road races. Every spring the adult group organises a Couch to Knocklyon Runner training group, a 10-week training programme for starting runners that ends with everyone running 5k.
Our coaches are all volunteers, Garda-vetted, and have attended Child Protection courses. We adhere to the Code of Ethics as set out by the Athletic Association of Ireland. We are affiliated to The Athletic Association of Ireland, with whom all our athletes and coaches are registered and insured.
